Digitale Archivierung Nord (DAN) Cooperative Network – Working together for digital preservation

The DAN cooperative network is an association of the federal states of Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein. We jointly use an IT service provider for the operation and hosting of our archive material in the ‘Digitales Magazin’ (DIMAG; digital repository). We are also a development partner in the DIMAG network and are therefore involved in the further development of the DIMAG software.

DAN in the DIMAG Development Network

Our goals

Digital archiving poses new challenges for public archives. Our network therefore focuses on the use and further development of the ‘Digitales Magazin’ (DIMAG; digital repository) – a software solution specially developed for long-term digital archiving.

The DAN network pursues a cooperative approach with numerous advantages:

  • Legally compliant long-term archiving of digital documents in accordance with archival principles
  • Avoidance of redundant IT infrastructures through a shared technical concept and a single IT service provider
  • Cost efficiency through pooling of resources and synergies
  • Exchange of experiences and collaborative development

A separate DIMAG instance is set up for each partner, which is operated by a shared IT service provider.

Digital repository partnership for further archives

The DAN network is not only open to state archives

All public archives from the participating federal states, such as municipal archives, university archives or other publicly funded archives, can currently use the DIMAG software as DAN digital repository partners.

This means that even smaller archives can benefit from a professional and sustainable archiving solution.
